About My Smart Garden
My Smart Garden is a sustainable gardening program managed by eight local councils across Melbourne, Victoria. The aim of the program is to build the resilience of local people living with a changing climate and scarcer resources.
Since 2011, our program has grown a network of over 4000 urban gardeners who are now gardening ‘smarter’: that is, harvesting and using water efficiently, growing food, using organic pesticides, recycling wastes, planting habitat and using vegetation to shelter their homes. The My Smart Garden program provides skills-based workshops, best-practice gardening resources and builds community connections around sustainable urban gardening.
The eight Councils partner with many organisations (both for-profit and not-for-profit) to deliver the program. External providers are selected based on their ability to deliver quality, engaging educational events and materials for our local communities.
